Contaminants are an unpleasant side effect in the paper making process. The problem is exacerbated by increasing water loop closure, increasing process temperatures and more frequently used raw materials, which bring non-cellulosic impurities into the system.

Mostly it is about colloidal anionic oligomers or polymers, as well as non-ionic polysaccharides and proteins. Contaminants can seriously limit the effect of cationic chemical additives and also contribute to the formation of deposits, stains and holes.

Where the cause of formation of contaminants is not preventable, they thus have to be removed or rendered inoperative by an appropriate antidote.
